Empowering Communities Through Traditional Skills Workshops in Yap

<p>Yap, FSM - On February 25, 2025, a special ceremony took place at Maap municipality to celebrate the official launch of the newly revived Traditional Navigation Society (TNS) canoe. The event was attended by the President of the Federated States of Micronesia, along with the First Lady and their staff. The Yap Traditional Navigation Society (YTNS) is a cultural organization dedicated to preserving and revitalizing the ancient art of traditional navigation in Yap, an island in the Federated States of Micronesia. Through hands-on workshops, community outreach, and the construction of traditional canoes, YTNS strives to pass down the knowledge of celestial navigation, boat building, and maritime heritage to future generations. The society is also working to rebuild the Yap Traditional Maritime Institute, creating a space for learning and celebrating the island's rich maritime culture, fostering pride and unity within the local community, and sharing Yap's navigational legacy with the world.
