Honoring Tradition and Progress: Canoe House Nears Completion
We are excited to share an important update on the Canoe House project in Maap, Yap. This vital structure will soon be completed, with the roof installation marking the final stage of construction. The Canoe House will protect the recently rebuilt traditional canoe and will serve as the workshop for building new canoes. This will ensure that the art and knowledge of traditional navigation continue for generations to come.

In the photo above, Chief Falngin and Chief Yoruw, both respected representatives on the Yap TNS Board, stand together to acknowledge and celebrate the community support that has brought this project to life. Their leadership reflects the commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of Yap through the restoration and practice of canoe building.

We extend our deepest thanks to Habele for their generous support of the Canoe House construction. Through their commitment to cultural preservation, they have helped create a space where the wisdom and skills of master navigators can be passed on to the next generation.

We also wish to sincerely thank every individual who contributed through Habele toward this project. Your generosity has made a direct and lasting impact on the future of traditional navigation in Yap. Every donation, no matter the size, has brought us closer to the vision of a thriving cultural space for learning, craftsmanship, and community pride.
The completion of the Canoe House will not only safeguard our canoe from the elements but will also stand as a living symbol of our shared dedication to keeping tradition alive. We look forward to celebrating its opening with all who have made this dream possible.
